Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE)

Do you want to expand your medical experience abroad? Have you always dreamed of making friends from all over the world? Excited to explore new cultures?

Then SCOPE might be just right for you!

What is SCOPE?

SCOPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) organizes foreign clinical internships in English or French. SCOPE is an international project of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations), the umbrella organization of BeMSA, and is organized in more than 100 countries worldwide. During 4 weeks in the summer months of July, August and September, you can pursue a medical internship in a department of your choice in one of the countries with which Belgium has a contract (this changes annually).

The local committee of each city provides accommodation, internship placement, one meal per weekday, a social program, and a contact person for the SCOPE students they host.

A contact person guides an incoming student: they are the person you can contact in case of problems, who will pick you up at the airport or train station, show you around the hospital, acquaint you with the city of your exchange, and provide you with tips regarding the social program.

The local program varies by location: welcome parties, cultural activities, visiting tourist attractions, outings like going to the beach... In short, immersing yourself in the life of a doctor during the day and relaxing and enjoying your evenings and weekends with other students.

  • You expand your medical knowledge and skills.
  • You experience how medical care is organized in other countries.
  • You get to know different cultures and learn to deal with cultural differences.
  • You broaden your horizons and discover new perspectives on life/the world.
  • You make lifelong friends from all corners of the world.
  • You have a unique, fantastic month that is not only incredibly educational but also super enjoyable.

In short: a unique experience that will stay with you for your entire life!!
