Do you want to expand your medical experience abroad?
Have you always dreamed of making friends from all over the world? Want to discover new cultures?
Then SCOPE might be something for you!
What is SCOPE?
SCOPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) are foreign clinical internships in English or French. SCOPE is an international project of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA), the umbrella organization of BeMSA, and is organized in more than 100 countries throughout the world. During 4 weeks you can do an internship in the summer months of July and August in a department of your choice in one of the countries with which Belgium has concluded a contract (this changes annually).
During the internship, the local student representation of IFMSA provides accommodation, 1 meal per weekday, a social program and a contact person.
The contact person accompanies an incoming student: he/she is the person who will welcome you at the airport or the train/bus station, show you the hospital and who can give you tips on the social program.
The social program is very place-dependent: sightseeing, partying, cultural activities, etc. In short, being immersed in the doctor's life during the day and just pure relaxation in the evenings and weekends with the other students. More information about the social program can be found on ifmsa.org, "Exchange the world", then choose "Participating Countries & Exchange Conditions" and then click on "SCOPE". You can then click on a country of your choice and you will find all the information about the social program, possible departments, etc.

Do you think you’re the perfect person to participate in SCOPE? Be sure to come to our info session on October 12th!
You can apply by filling in a google form, adding some documents (deadline: TBA). The necessary documents and templates can be found on this website after the info moment. Be sure to check our facebook event and page (Bemsa Gent: Scope/Score) for more updates and information.

In your motivation letter you have to tell us about your experiences within BeMSA, volunteering work, youth movement, social work, whether or not you've been a contact person in Belgium, etc. You must convince us that you are socially involved and that you have the right profile! Additionally, you have to mention and motivate the 5 countries and departments you would like to attend an internship in. You also need to inform us about the year of study you are currently in.
The best candidates per university will be invited for an interview in November which aims to test the English or French language proficiency and to query the student's motivation.
The announcement of the assigned country will take place in November.
If you have any questions or would like some more explanation, don’t hesitate to contact us by mail to scope@bemsa-gent.be!
