Standing Committee on Research Exchange (SCORE)

In this place, you will receive all the information you need to depart for four weeks in the summer to a country of your choice for a research project of your choice.

Are you interested in a foreign experience in July or August? Would you like to dive into scientific research? Curious about life at a foreign university? Do you enjoy discovering a different culture and making new international friendships with students from all over the world?

What is SCORE?

SCORE (Standing Committee on Research Exchange) organizes foreign research internships in English or French. SCORE is an international program of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students' Associations), the overarching organization of BeMSA. SCORE is organized in more than a hundred countries worldwide. During four weeks in the summer months of July or August, you can participate in a research project in one of the countries with which Belgium has a contract.

The local committee of each city provides accommodation, a research project, one meal per (week)day, a social program, and a contact person for the SCORE students they host.

A contact person guides an incoming student: they are the person you can contact in case of problems, who will pick you up at the airport or train station, acquaint you with the city of your exchange, and provide you with tips regarding the social program.

The local program varies by location: welcome parties, cultural activities, visiting tourist attractions, outings like going to the beach... In short, the social program means enjoying and having fun with the other students in the evenings and on weekends.

Why?

  • You gain scientific knowledge and skills.
  • You get to know different cultures and learn to deal with cultural differences.
  • You broaden your horizons and discover new perspectives on life/the world.
  • You make lifelong friends from all corners of the world.
  • You have a unique, fantastic month that is not only incredibly educational but also super enjoyable.

In short: an experience that will stay with you for your entire life!!!

Does this sound like a dream come true for you? Do you believe you're the perfect person to participate in the SCORE program? Be sure to attend the information session on October 10, 2023!

Applying is possible by filling out a Google Form and attaching some documents (deadline: 29/10 at 23:59). You can find the necessary documents and templates on this website after the information session. Be sure to check our Facebook event and page (Bemsa Gent: Scope/Score) for more updates and information.

In the motivation letter, you should write about your experiences within BeMSA, volunteer work, youth organizations, social work, if you have been or want to be a contact person in Belgium... Show us that you are socially engaged and that you have the right profile! Also, mention your top 5 countries where you would like to do your internship and motivate your choices. Also, please mention your current year of study.

The best candidates from each university will be invited for an (online) interview in November to test their proficiency in English or French (or another language if required) and to inquire about the student's motivation once again.

The date for announcing the selected students and their assigned country will be communicated later.
