Are you interested in a foreign experience in July or August? Would you like to carry out scientific research? Are you curious about how research affects a foreign university? Are you fascinated by other cultures and do you want to become friends with students all over the world?
On this page you will find all the information you need for the 4 weeks research exchange program this summer.
What is SCORE?
SCORE (Standing Committee on Research Exchange) organises foreign research exchanges in English or French. SCORE is an international program of the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations), the umbrella organisation of BeMSA. It is organised in more than 100 countries, spread all over the world. This Standing Committee allows students to participate in a 4 week research project in one of the countries Belgium has signed a contract with.
During the internship, the local committee of every city provides accommodation, 1 meal per (week)day, a social program and a contact person.
The contact person accompanies an incoming student: he/she is the person that you can contact when there is a problem, who will welcome you at the airport or the train/bus station, show you the hospital and who can give you tips on the social program.
The social program is very place-dependent: sightseeing, partying, cultural activities, etc. In short, you will be immersed in your project during the days, but the evenings and weekends will be full of fun.
Why?
- You acquire a lot of scientific knowledge and skills.
- You get to know other cultures and learn how to deal with cultural differences.
- You expand your horizon and discover new perspectives of the world we live in.
- You make friends for life from all corners of the world.
- You experience a unique, fantastic month that is not only very educational but also fun.

In short: it is an experience that you will never forget!!!
For whom?
For all students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences from first year bachelor to first year master.
Where?
More information will be available later.
Price?
€ 550 for 4 weeks including:
- Pre-Exchange Training (PET, obliged)

! Social programs are sometimes exclusively, dependent on the country and activity.

Does this sound like a dream come true? Do you think you’re the perfect person to join the SCORE program? Then make sure to come to our info moment on October 12th!
You can apply by filling in a google form, adding some documents (deadline: TBA). The necessary documents and templates can be found on this website after the info moment. Be sure to check our facebook event and page (Bemsa Gent: Scope/Score) for more updates and information.
When applying, mention your experiences within BeMSA, volunteering, youth movement, social work, whether you have been/want to be a contact in Belgium … Show us that you are socially committed and that you are the right profile for the exchange! Also mention the top 5 countries where you would like to do an internship and motivate your choices. We also want to know what year of study you are in.
The best candidates per university will be invited for a (Skype) interview during the weekend of 13-14 November which aims to test the English or French (or other language if it's required) language proficiency and to query the student’s motivation.
The Powerpoint from the info session will be placed here.
If you have any questions or would like some more information, don’t hesitate to contact SCORE@bemsa-gent.be!
